Safeguarding

Every Child is Everybody's Responsibility...

The Governing body and staff of St Andrew's Church of England Primary School take seriously its responsibility under section 175 of the Education Act 2002 to safeguard and promote the welfare of children; and to work together with other agencies to ensure adequate arrangements within our school to identify, assess, and support those children who are suffering harm.

We recognise that all adults, including temporary staff, volunteers and governors, have a full and active part to play in protecting our pupils from harm, and that the child’s welfare is our paramount concern. We understand that safeguarding incidents could happen anywhere and staff should be alert to possible concerns being raised in this school.

All staff at St Andrew's believe that our school should provide a caring, positive safe and stimulating environment that promotes the social, physical and moral development of the individual child.

Policies are in place to ensure the safety of our children and are constantly updated in line with current legislation.

Every Child is Everybody's Responsibility.

PREVENT

Children are encouraged to express and discuss their ideas, thoughts and feelings through a variety of activities and have access to a range of cultural opportunities which promote respect and empathy for others. As part of our new Prevent duty under s.26 of the Counter-Terrorism and Security Act 2015 we are aware of the importance of building children's resilience to radicalisation by promoting fundamental British values and enabling them to challenge extremist views.

Schools can build children’s resilience to radicalisation by providing a safe environment for debating controversial issues and helping children and young people understand how they can influence and participate in decision making.

St Andrew's Primary School is fully committed to safeguarding and promoting the welfare of all its pupils. As a school we recognise that safeguarding against radicalisation is as important as safeguarding against any other vulnerability

On 1 July 2015 the Prevent duty (section 26) of The Counter-Terrorism and Security Act 2015 came into force. This duty places the responsibility on local authorities and schools to have due regard to the need to prevent people from being drawn into terrorism.

Operation Encompass

St Andrew's CE Primary School is involved in a national initiative called Operation Encompass.

Following a domestic abuse incident attended by the Police, at which pupils from our school were present, we will be notified by the Police about the incident prior to the start of the next day.

This ensures appropriate school staff are aware of the incident as pupils may be upset, distressed or worried. We can then help and support the pupil as necessary.
